Laundry Worker

Must be able to follow oral and written instruction and have hand-eye coordination necessary to perform simple counting and reading of laundry tickets. Be able to maintain production to meet or exceed standards and to work with others as part of a team. Operates the flatwork ironer preparing it for receiving flatwork to be processed. Processes uniforms and patient clothing through garment finishing machine. Folds ironed flatwork and rough dry linens. Sorts soiled linen as required for processing. Screens for unserviceable linen and items needing repairs. Stocks linen carts to established quotas and maintain stock on units. Cleans all linen carts with germicidal detergent. Counts all linen items segregating by patients or employee name and assigned area, and patients clothing is bundled. Rotates from one position to another periodically (usually monthly). Alphabetize or put in numbers in order to avoid loss of items. Check number of items on a ticket against those submitted. Sort laundry by the type of garment and the wash ability of the fabrics; this would require the ability to recognize different types of fabrics. Feed items into flatwork ironer without wrinkling or bunching. Use flatwork iron to press all applicable items with the exception of shirts and garments; Keep pace with the speed of the flatwork ironer. Identify a washed item that is definitely not clean. Serves as the relief laundry machine operator in the absence of the regular machine operator and does all duties of the laundry machine operator. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly condition. Notifies supervisor of all unserviceable linen and items needing repairs. Assists in any section of the laundry when the workload requires, also assists in laundry inventories. All safety and infection control regiments must be adhered to. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor or designee. Work Schedule:

Experience:

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Required to walk, stand, stretch, and bend with constant movement of arms and hands. Light to medium lifting is required when pushing baskets or lifting linen such as stacks of sheets. All work is done indoor. Subject to extreme heat temperatures and hazardous work on high powered moving machines. Exposure to contaminated areas. Incumbent must wear cap, gloves, mask and gown while performing duties in classifying area. Exposed to noxious odors.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
